New Mattress Finally I get to stop sleeping on hills of dead dust mites and my back thanks me for it. We had to wait around inthe evening for the mattress to be delivered, thus missing Will's birthday dinner, but now I can be Princess and the Pea with my tall pillow-top comfort. At last, comfort.
Today I am typing up the Monthly Report at work and then I will ink more of JW's pencils.
Last night? Beta Testing went very well. Except the part where I was flagged PVP for no reason and got killed three times. Once while riding a mammoth. |

!!!! Today is HPL's 118th Birthday.
I think I'll celebrate later this evening by raising a glass of Shuggoth's Ol' Peculiar and toasting him, because without HPL words like "orbs" (when describing eyes), "squamous", "non-euclidean", and "cyclopean" wouldn't have seen nearly as much use as they should.
What's your favorite HPL adjective?

tired happy dogs I worked at the art studio from around 3-7:30 today. I always take a break to walk the dogs while i'm there because it's a really nice neighborhood. When i went outside, it was warm and muggy, feeling like rain. whoa, havn't felt that in a while! it was really nice to have some warm hours instead of all of this cold foggy crap we've been having in humboldt lately. the hot temps inland suck a bunch of moisture out of the ocean and it gets dumped on us in the form of fog. just about every day it seems, or at least lately...
I drove home around sunset and took the dogs on a lovely 40 minute bike ride. down the street, into the farmland, and to the ruins of an old lumbermill where I took the dogs offlead and biked around on the trails there. it was so beautiful, warm and windy.
now i have two very happy, tired dogs, who are trying to go to sleep but they keep waking themselves up by being unable to stop panting... ah, what a life.
i'll be posting some art for sale sometime tonight - i have some little drawings i'd love to show you guys! |

YOU'RE JUST GETTING TO THIS NOW?! Ohio says no to "sleepovers".Sleepovers are the case where people are allowed to take voting machines home the night before the election. Because, you know, Diebold voting machines have totally proven to be 100% resistant to all kinds of tampering... link nabbed from flemco-Ren |

Writing: Grammar Nazis, please help me! So, I'm wrapping up the editing on a short story and I need some help with a sentence.
Is it "We do what we have to survive." or "We do what we have to to survive?" With latter, is there a comma separating the tos? I really don't like "We do what we have to in order to survive." It just doesn't have the same feel.
Please help a grammar-challenged newb out?

today I killed 8 birds when I got to my house today. a layer hen who has had the virus for two months and couldn't shake it, a bbred old english cull who was miserable, and some young sick crosses I would have sold if this all didnt' happen. Things could be looking up for the flock as a whole though. it was nice and warm and sunny out at my parents place so the birds were all active, sunbathing and dust bathing when i checked on them all. I cleaned up the ones who needed it. I picked apples from the tree on the hill and put them in most of the pens, especially the ones with sick birds so they have something to keep busy, and something to help push mucous down their throats. mom pulled up some seeding lettuce from her garden to distribute around the pens as well. It's afflicting what's left of the old english the worst now. everythign else is looking OK for the most part as i am culling hard just to reduce the numbers. I am going to sell all of the pigeons soon so I don't have to deal with them anymore.
i took the dogs to the river and they had a ball. I found a baby garter snake who was just amazing. he slithered into the river water to avoid me. I wished I had my camera on me. |

Rejoice! For you are all safe now; I have fed.
Through the wilds of Super Cool Company's building I roamed, creeping through cubicle farms, before finally spotting my prey. With lightning speed I pounced and it's delicious yumminess was mine.

A Warning To say that I am hungry would be a fallacy of not providing enough information; I am ravenous to the point that I contain the appetite of an entire zombie horde within my body. I am so hungry that I could eat buffalo. Multiple. I feel like I should be stalking the wild saber-toothed cheeseburger across distant savanna with nothing more than a pair of toothpicks and a bad attitude. I'm struggling not to size up my coworkers simply by how much of a meal they'd provide and then pouncing on them to devour their sweet, tender flesh when they meet some unknown criteria.
Please, for your sake or mine, don't make any sudden movements for the next fifteen minutes.

Camping what? So I'm not going camping yet after all..? XD I ended up getting a good bite on a resume I put out, and he's going to be calling in the next couple of days to set up an interview, so it probably wouldn't be too wise to skip town immediately. Hopefully I can still get up there this weekend, though! I plan to try.
Gonna be working on commissions today, since I let myself slip on those for a while. :/ It's amazing how much depression saps my creativity or even ability to use my imagination at times. I'm reeeeally starting to suspect that medication might be a good idea; but then, I haven't been eating well lately at all and that makes a big difference too.
Dad came back from Mexico on Sunday, a couple of days earlier than anybody anticipated. His treatment run down there finished early or something, I'm not really sure. I got to go up and see him yesterday and he looks great. He sounds like he's got a little cold or something but the swelling in his neck has gone down dramatically, which means his tumor is shrinking. He seemed more alert and in less pain than I've seen him in months. It was really healing to get to hug him again. :3 We'd been communicating via email while he was away; for whatever reason it's easier for me to verbalize things in writing rather than.. uh, verbally. XD That was very healing too, and we've bridged some gaps in our relationship in the past couple of weeks because of it.
I got to sit on his front porch and watch hummingbirds with him. We used his old pair of binoculars that I remember playing with when I was a wee thing and watched them as they swooped and dove and chattered at one another. Saw lots of female rufous, possibly one male, and not much else. It was really beautiful. ^_^
And now, to draw things. <3 |

AND WHO THE HELL IS SOPHIE A conversation I just had:
"Just take some time off! You're sick, it's not like it's Sophie's Choice and you're deciding what child to give to the Nazis!" "Sophie's Choice? I thought that was a brand of coffee." "No, that's TASTER'S choice." "This is like scripted dialogue." |

downhill I have lost 8 old english in the last couple of days. it's not coryza like I was medicating for. I think it's infectious laryngo-tracheitis which is a virus and isn't helped by antibiotics.
I made some phone calls today and I'm going to be overnighting some dead birds to UC Davis for a diagnosis tomorrow. If it is what I think it is, given my situation, i'm going to have to depopulate (euthanize all of them) and not have birds on the property for at least a year because it's such a serious virus. |

Full weekend of people In case you were wondering why no new art has appeared, Joe and I have been socializing since Friday. Joyce and Anthony came over for drinks and art talk Friday evening and we let off a lot of glad-not-to-be-at-work steam. Joe in particular has been hating his job.
Saturday I attended the funeral of a nice old man at our church, then cleaned the apartment while the cats jumped all over eachother. Talked to Roz on the phone (that reminds me, I need to call her back) and then got ready for a cocktail party at Joe's mom's place. That party was surprisingly fun, considering the median age of the people. Mike and Elin arrived and we discussed their wedding plans and the housing market and TV shows and whatnot. The guests were a nice bunch of intellectuals who made really great mojitos and orange blossoms and gimlets. I normally do not drink, but these were tasty and full of plant parts.
Today I sang in the choir and then we went out to lunch with J & A like every Sunday now. It started raining at last. I tried photographing the cats but...well, sigh. |
